Plovdiv: a stunning Roman Theatre, and more…

A couple of hours to travel the 100 miles or so from Sofia to Plovdiv by train, and plenty of time to explore the ancient town of Plovdiv. There is a well-preserved end of a Roman Stadium (the rest is subsumed under a modern shopping arcade) with a cafe inserted into it, where I had lunch. Here are pictures of the exposed end, and sections under H&M and another shopping centre, the Excelsior Centre:


There is also a good Archaeological Museum, with some really interesting finds, but alas they forbid photographs.

The real draw, however, is the Roman Theatre, one of the best I have been to. Here are some pictures…
