Lisbon and Evora: an introduction to Lusitania

There is plenty to see in the gorgeous city of Lisbon – I doubt anyone really goes for the Roman ruins, vestigial at best. Nonetheless, an hour or so by train takes you to Evora, which is much more interesting archaeologically, and has a temple better preserved than most. I believe that this is because it was walled up many years ago, and used as a slaughterhouse for a while.

First, some pictures of that Roman temple at Evora.

There is also a good museum at Evora, with some really interesting things.

Next, some pictures of the only real Roman ruins in the city of Lisbon – the Roman theatre.

There is a museum attached to the theatre, with a few nice artefacts.
