Conímbriga: extensive and fascinating Roman site near Coimbra

I spent the morning at Portugal’s best and largest archaeological site, Conímbriga. I’m staying at a place 45 minutes by bus south of Coimbra, called Condeixa, and the walk from here to the site of Conímbriga was lovely and quite an easy 30 minutes.

Once at the  site, there are several very interesting parts. There’s a residential area with reconstructed columns and mosaics (and a reconstructed garden with water features which will switch on if you put 50 cents into a slot in the wall, a couple of separate bath houses and a Roman wall, a much-reconstructed Forum, and a museum with some nice finds well organised and a great Minotaur in the Labyrinth mosaic. Here are some pictures.
